Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation
Our department was established under Institute of Child Health in 1958 by Dr. Emel Çobanoğlu. With the establishment of Hacettepe University, Head of Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation became Prof. Özdemir Demir. Later on, Prof. Mualla Karamehmetoğlu and Prof. Kemal Erdem took the role of Head of Department.
Hacettepe University Hospitals provide service with a total of 31 operating rooms including 25 in the operating room unit, 2 in Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and 4 in Interventional Radiology medical department. Operating rooms are active on a 24-hour basis and approximately 200 operations are performed daily. Approximately 30-35% of these consist of patients admitted from outpatient surgical center. Furthermore, our practices of sedation, invasive procedures and anesthesia outside operating room continue for our inpatients in intensive care units. There practices can be summarized as; mechanic ventilation treatment, interventional radiology, pediatric and adult BT, electroconvulsive treatment while taking MRI scan and in psychiatry, lithotripsy with extracorporeal shock wave in urology, colonoscopy-endoscopy during pediatric hematology procedures, radiotherapy in radiation oncology and adult-pediatric gastroenterology department, cardioversion in coronary intensive care and fiberoptic bronchoscopy in pediatric chest diseases.
Two disciplines consisting of intensive care and pain are carried out under the department. The working schedule in these units is carried out under the responsibility of the academic staff in charge by rotation.
Preoperative evaluations of walk-in patients are conducted in out anesthesia outpatient clinic located on the entrance floor of Polyclinics Outbuilding.
Practices and scientific studies on general anesthesia, regional anesthesia and pain treatment are conducted in our operating rooms by Department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation. Furthermore, invasive interventional procedures of other medical departments and related anesthesia practices are continued. A 4-bed Reanimation Unit and a 5-bed Post-Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit offer active service under our department.
Central Surgery Room and Department Secretariat
It is located on floor A of Hacettepe Adult Hospital and Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital. It is located one floor below from the second stairs and elevators (elevators of Block 6) on the right towards the direction of main hallways of Adult Hospital after entering from door No. 7. A Surgery Room Secretariat is located directly upon entrance of Operating Rooms Unit The secretariat of Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department is on the floor A, next to the pay desk located one floor below after walking towards the hallway upon entering from door no. 7.

Outpatient Operating Room Department Secretariat
Outpatient Surgery Room Secretariat can be reached by entering into Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Hospital through door no. 3 and going one floor below.

Anesthesia Outpatient Clinic is located on the ground floor of outbuilding of outpatient clinics at Hacettepe Adult Hospital and it is open during office hours.

Pain Policlinic
Pain Policlinic can be reached from the secretariat of Anesthesiology and Reanimation Department. Enter into the building of Hacettepe Adult Hospital from door 7, walk to the end of the corridor, and take the stairs (or elevator) to one floor below. It is near the pay desk.

Secretariat of Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit
It is located on ground floor of Hacettepe Adult Hospital and Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital. Following entering from door no. 7, it is located on the right side after the second stairs and elevators (elevators of block 6) while walking towards the direction to main hallways of Hacettepe Adult Hospital. A secretariat is directly available upon entering Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit.
Post-Anesthesia Intensive Care Unit can be reached after passing through the controlled door across upon turning right from Central Surgery Room Secretariat.
