Nephrology - Rheumatology Unit
In Pediatric Nephrology-Rheumatology Unit, the activities on pediatric kidney and urinary system diseases and childhood rheumatic diseases are carried out. Outpatient clinic, inpatient follow up, hemodialysis, outpatient peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation services are offered in the unit mainly by academic staff and instructors, and by expert staff of Pediatric Nephrology-Rheumatology Unit of Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital. The department is located at Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital.
In our department, there are hemodialysis and outpatient peritoneal dialysis units that are equipped with ultra-modern hardware and with high-tech devices and a laboratory in where the special tests are performed.
Childhood kidney and urinary tract diseases, hypertension and rheumatic diseases (such as familial Mediterranean fever, systemic lupus erythematosus, and arthralgia) are more common than supposed. In the unit, outpatient clinic services are provided and the patients are monitored in the inpatient services by being hospitalized when needed.
All patient care services are provided by academic staff and instructors who are specialized in their own fields and are worldwide known. Furthermore, hemodialysis service is offered to patients with chronic kidney failure and long-term follow up processes carried out, in the unit. Patients are prepared for kidney transplantation and then followed up. The devices used in hemodialysis unit are the products of latest technology and the service is provided by well experienced nurses and technicians.
Outpatient peritoneal dialysis, which is one of the most important inventions of recent years, has freed the patients with chronic kidney failures from remaining connected to hemodialysis machines for hours and has enabled children to continue dialyses without preventing their school and social lives. More importantly, it has freed children from the kidney failure diet, which is quite difficult to apply and has helped their growth and development to be healthier. In the unit, patients who are administered outpatient peritoneal dialysis are followed up by specialists with the help of a trained nurse and the required trainings are provided for patients.
Diagnostic renal biopsy is also conducted in the unit.
The department is the pre-eminent center in Turkey on diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of childhood rheumatic diseases. The genetic diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of familial Mediterranean fever are carried out, which is common in our society and causes chronic kidney failure as a result of amyloid deposition when it is not treated.
In our laboratory, in addition to the routine tests performed in order to diagnose nephrological and rheumatic diseases, particular tests such as ANCA, SAA, C3, nephritic factor and lgD level can be performed and the laboratory preserves being the only center in Turkey with this feature.
Patients who will be examined for the first time cannot book appointments by phone, however the ones who have already been followed up can book appointments by phone.
Patients cannot be examined without appointments. Appointments are scheduled for the next 15 working days at most and can be received from Secretariat of Pediatric Nephrology Unit located on the 3rd floor of Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital.
Pediatric Nephrology Unit is located on the 3rd floor, after entering Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital through the door no. 1 or 2.
