Pediatric and Perinatal Pathology Unit
In Pathology Subdivision, biopsy (needle, endoscopic, punch and surgical) and necropsy (autopsy) activities and experimental researches are performed for diagnostic and scientific researches for fetal, perinatal and pediatric age groups (0-17 age).
Tissue samples are monitored with modern tissue monitoring devices, examined by using histochemical, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence methods and the diagnoses are completed with biochemical and molecular genetics methods, when needed. In the pathology unit, a variety of conventional light, polarized and immune fluorescence microscopes are used for these services. Furthermore, when electron microscopic examination is required, this opportunity is offered by making necessary interdepartmental arrangements. The department provides service at Hacettepe İhsan Doğramacı Children's Hospital.
Pediatric Pathology Unit intends to develop and integrate the methods and knowledge that ensure healthy birth and healthy growth, to ensure acceleration by updating and dissemination of diagnostic methods related with childhood cancers, to support the activities on particularly genetic, neuromuscular, gastrointestinal and nephrologic diseases, to offer the data will be obtained in this framework for the benefits of public health and world literature and to train families and relevant physicians in this respect in order to raise healthy individuals in the community. Within the framework of these aims, our department established Pediatric and Perinatal Pathology Association in 2002.
