Pediatric Intensive Care Unit
In Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), basic and advanced life support services are provided to patients at the age of 1 month up to 16 years, who need watchful waiting and high-level care.
There are 16 bed in PICU. One of these beds is located in a separate room in the unit, isolated from the others. This bed is used for the patients who need to be isolated for their and also for the other patients' health. The ventilation of PICU is separated from the other departments at the hospital and it is equipped with special filters called "hepa filter", in order to manage infection control. The ventilation of the isolation room is also independent from the rest of the unit.
In PICU, the advanced respiratory support is practiced with mechanical respiratory equipment. High frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) can also be used in addition to the conventional ventilation.
The monitoring procedure which is one of the most important services of PICU, is performed in vitro and in vivo ‘invasively’ and data can be stored in monitoring device. Small surgical interventions can be performed on the bed, with the developed technical hardware in PICU.
X-ray imaging procedures of the patients can be performed in the unit with the X-ray device in PICU. Advanced analyses are possible with Mobile Echocardiography and ultrasonography devices. Patients can be transferred with their beds since the analyses that cannot be performed in the unit.
Constant renal replacement treatments (pcrrt, cvvhd), hemodialysis and aortic balloon pump can be used within the unit, when needed.
In PICU, patients can be fed from mouth, stomach, intestine, or intravascularly depending on his/her special conditions. Baby food is prepared in the special food kitchen and intravascularparenteral nutrition is prepared in the parenteral nutrition laboratory.
PICU offers service with 9 physicians including a consultant physician, a specialist, 3 residents and 4 intern physicians, and 10 nurses including one head nurse. In addition to the physicians and nurses, assistant staff and attendants work in PICU and nutritionist, chest physiotherapy and physiotherapy teams have active roles in the unit. Patients are consulted with specialists from all branches and treatments are directed with the recommendations of the specialists .
In PICU, while the most advanced customized life support is offered for the patients, the parents of the patients, who are considered as a part of the treatment team, are tried to be supported by social service experts in their difficult periods.

Visiting hours
Our visiting hours are between 12:30 and 13:30 and between 18:30 and 19:30 every day, and in this time period parents may also help feeding their children. In addition, information can be obtained about the patients throughout 24 hours every day and when needed the patients can be visited, under the supervision of the service nurse, if the conditions are suitable. The outer door of the unit is kept closed so for visiting and entrance requests, you can dial 11 on the phone which is located at the outer door and talk to the unit staff.
