General Internal Medicine Unit
Initially, it was established as General Internal Medicine Unit by Prof. Tümay Sözen in 2002 within Department of Internal Diseases and it has been a Subdivision since September 2013. General Internal Medicine Subdivision provides service on the ground floor of outpatient clinic building of internal diseases. General Internal Medicine Subdivision offers outpatient clinic services and also consultation services for the daily follow-up of inpatients in terms of general internal medicine. General Internal Medicine Subdivision gives service to patients above 18 years old in its outpatient clinics and inpatient services with its academic staff, instructors and residents.

Multiple chronic condition management, preventive medicine practices, acute care (early detection, treatment and guidance of critical patient), palliative (supportive) care, inpatient monitoring, perioperative are among the patient-oriented service areas of General Internal Medicine. Furthermore, General Internal Medicine is also engaged in adolescent medicine (between the ages of 18 to 25), adulthood follow-up and monitoring of congenital diseases in adulthood and medical care of international patients.
Our subdivision offers the following services during the process of outpatient clinic service
a) treatment and follow-up of chronic diseases, evaluating the patient as a whole, coordinating treatment and care of patients with complex and chronic multiple conditions;
b) periodic medical checkups of healthy people (check-up) and early detection of individuals at a high risk of disease, practicing preventive care in this context in order to improve individual and social health; ,
c) In circumstances where surgical procedures are required, provide pre-operational evaluation and required medical care in order to identify the health conditions that could risk patient’s life and carry out post-operational follow-up in respect to internal diseases,
d) hospitalizing emergency/critical patients who have applied for outpatient clinic services so that they can be monitored,
e) offer supportive care to patients in the last stage of disease;
During the process of inpatient care
a) Evaluating the patient as a whole with all medical conditions by contributing to the collaboration and harmony among the departments at the care services stage of inpatients in Internal Diseases by means of service consultation, performing necessary diagnostic tests in the most efficient way;
b) Assume the responsibility of care services to all of the inpatients of the hospital with conditions related to internal medicine by means of external service consultation; c) monitoring inpatients in the acute care service and maintain their treatment.
Patients who receive examination appointment from our department are evaluated by academic staff and residents. Necessary tests are planned based on their complaints and conditions. Patients are evaluated again after blood tests, urine analyses and radiology scans and their treatment is planned. Reporting and prescription procedures are followed when necessary. Different departments are consulted when necessary. Patients are informed on control dates and periods.
When patients apply for control examinations which have been predetermined in terms of date based on their conditions; their current condition, response to treatment and, if necessary, control tests are reviewed.
Internal Diseases Residents and academic staff of our department conduct consultations of patients who apply to the emergency service or of inpatients hospitalized in any other services than internal medicine, pre-operational routine patient evaluation, evaluation and correction of pre and post-operational conditions concerning internal medicine and monitoring inpatients hospitalized in other departments in respect to diseases which concern internal medicine.
Consultation system
In order to ensure the coordination of consultation of inpatients staying in Internal Diseases services among departments in respect to tests and treatment, academic staff and instructors of General Internal Medicine Subdivision offer consultation service in internal medicine services.
Under the leadership of our academic staff in General Internal Medicine Subdivision, acute care service undertakes the care provided to acute/critical patients who are not in need of intensive care.
Outpatient clinic services are given upon appointment. You can request examination and control appointments by dialing 444 4 444. Patients who arrive for examination should apply national ID card and referral or similar papers, if any.
Our outpatient clinic services include follow-up and treatment of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, thyroid diseases, osteoporosis, heart diseases, gastritis for patients aged 18-65, diagnosing and planning the suitable treatments of diseases in line with emerging symptoms and findings; provide health care services to patients with chronic diseases in terms of supportive care; make recommendations on healthy life and vaccination in preventive and corrective treatment and performing medical screening in accordance with medical data based on current evidence. The department follows world literature and adopts the latest follow-up and treatment approaches in the course of these services.
